Google’s new Indic Transliteration tool

என்ன இப்படி ஈசியா இருக்கு? ரொம்ப சுலபமா தமிழ்ல டைப் அடிச்சிடலாம் போல இருக்கே!

This text was typed using the Goodle indic transliteration device. It is a super-easy tool and we can use it to type in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. As you type in English, you even get a choice of words. When I typed ‘ensai’ to get ‘என்சாய்’, I also got other word options like: ‘என்சை’, ‘எனசை’, ‘எண்சை’ and ‘எங்சை’ as well as an ‘Edit’ option to make any necessary changes to the text. Neat!

No installing fonts, no letting in spyware or virus, albeit unknowingly and of course, no more worrying about your operating system! All you need is the link: http://www.google.com/transliterate/indic/Tamil and a fully functional Ctrl and g keys to toggle!

 http://photography-in-tamil.blogspot.com/ is a Tamil blog which conducts monthly photography competition for Tamil bloggers. Most of the entries are less than amateur quality in my opinion and most of them invariably seem to edit the photos using a photo editing software even the “experts” of that blog advise the entrants to do so. Being an image analyst myself, who once taught digital image processing, I am certainly not against editing a photograph. Even most of the winning entries of their competitions are less than amateur type imo (I am asking for trouble if you ask me).

Within the limitation of my limited blog reading, one particular photographer has always amazed me with her eye for composing beautiful frames with otherwise very ordinary content and it is none other than our fiction fragment and poetry famous Neha. Take this one for example and another example

A cooking site – with a difference!

Sorry for not posting regularly. Recently started uni and that is keeping me pretty busy. Anyways, wish you all a very happy deepavali. Please have a safe one!

Now, for my find – aimless wandering (or should I say ’stumbling’?!) brought this gem to me. Start Cooking is an American site that teaches one how to cook. Yes, literally. Not like my food blog (plug plug!) where you have a dekko at the recipes and have a go at making them yourself, at startcooking.com you can actually watch the owner, Kathy Maister, cook the dishes in front of your very eyes! How wonderful is that! Her simple, easily understandable instructions are beautifully complimented by the slickly edited images that make following a recipe a doddle.
