Benazir Bhutto ‘killed in blast’

Pakistani former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has been killed in a presumed suicide attack, a military spokesman has announced on TV.

Of all the records played up so far, 10-year-old S. Deepa’s feat stands as a test of talent. She can recite all 1,330 couplets of Thirukural in 13 minutes, which means she delivers each one in less than a second. 

At first sight, the girl’s recital might seem incomprehensible, with her lips quivering at intense speed to utter the couplets. A closer observation reveals more such inconceivable efforts.

She is now trained to recite the couplets along with their meaning, her trainer Mr. Shanmuganadhan said.

Ads’ impact on children probed

The probe, part of a 10-year plan for children in England to be published next week, comes amid fears about the commercialisation of childhood.

He said many parents were concerned about youngsters being bombarded with adverts and media images that encouraged the “sexualisation” of girls.

They would look at the cumulative impact of advertising on different aspects of childhood and well-being, to see whether commercial pressure had a “negative impact”.

I could never understand rationalistic women agreeing for arranged marriage. I can see why men opt for it, but women who “understand” things but risking to marry a stranger that too after coming across so many jerks in life? What if he happens to be the worst jerk of all? what if he happens to be the bully or who believes in gender craps..
