The “fair” society

I was one of the very few dark skinned girls who had never bought a single tube of fairness cream. Perhaps it was not just my skin colour that needed fixing! The cliche, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” turned out to be true in my case, as the ugly betty of the Indian society is considered as a gorgeous pretty woman by the western society. I still encounter both the treatments in my life. Still Indians look at me with amazement at the way I carry myself even after having a mirror in my house. I certainly do not miss a single second of enjoyment when heads turn towards me to give me a second look when I enter a room  / hall full of British men.

Though looking good does influence one’s confidence, is it “fair” to advocate that lightening one’s skin colour will make them look good?
