I was reading an article by Chris Guillebeau, “A brief guide to world domination. How to Live a Remarkable Life in a Conventional World“; there was a mention of a Professor who gave a talk titled, “Really achieving your childhood dreams“:
Last September, Professor Randy Pausch gave an inspiring lecture to a small group of friends, family, and colleagues at the university where he had taught for ten years. Randy had recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and did not expect to live much longer.
In his “last lecture,” Randy provided a good mixture of humor and motivational content on the subject of “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams.”
Today as I was reading Madura’s latest post – A Remarkable Life, one of the commentors mentioned the death of Prof. Randy Pausch. Prof. Randy Pausch passed away just 2 days ago on July 25, 2008. Prof Pausch’s Homepage.
Links to the video:
Really achieving your childhood dreams – Duration: 1:16:27
This is a tribute to Prof. Randy Pausch.

Today I was searching for Sudha Murthy to locate her contact details, when I came across this blog post that kind of touched me. Probably many people have heard the story before, but here it is again:

Shikha recommends that you rethink about what YOU want from life…
…
YOU matter. Your happiness matters.
…
…
Spend some moments to savour your feeling about yourself. Savour your realization that you want to make life easy and good for yourself.
…
…
Don’t let thoughts clutter your mind. Occupy yourself with the present and your basic need to enjoy the moment.
…
Listening to you Shikha (and thank you friend) 🙂

Zaiba Malik spends a month undercover as a hotel cleaner and writes about their plight for wages sometimes as low as £1.80 per room. Most of the hotel cleaners are Eastern Europeans, Latin Americans and the like, doing this so that they can support families back home.
[…]Like most cleaners I meet, Belen works to send money home – she’s paying for her son’s university fees in Ecuador, “so he can have a better life than me”.[…]
So its not all about being concerned only about oneself, is it? People do do things for others.

Itchy seems to be the blogger of the week here – not surprising – considering the prolific number of good posts that she produces. This is her second consecutive post on Kathambamaalai. Here she rants about the absence of a social life as was available in the ‘good old times’.
[…]I have not been invited for a party since a long time and neither have I called people over for dinner- something which I was doing on a monthly basis. Simply put we don’t have time or inclination or energy to do it.
[…]
I too miss the ‘good old times’. 😦

…so she treats her in-laws with the same informality she reserves for her parents. In other words, grandma cooks and mom eats; grandpa walks me and mom sleeps in;…
On Terri’s posts, the comments are in fact as much fun (or probably more) as the posts.

Husband: I am sorry ok? Forgive me.
Wife: I will never forgive you for what you said.
H: I’m saying sorry right?
W: So?
H: Just say I am forgiven.
W: OK you are forgiven.
H: You did nt mean that!
W: How do you know? You asked me to say it and I said it.
H: Mean it.

Read On Becoming A Child.
But I digress. This post is on the rigours of becoming a child.
When I was born to this world, my parents were remarkably unexcited. I draw this painful conclusion from the fact that they did not even bother to come up with a name for me and when they finally did, they chose what will one day undoubtedly qualify as a common noun since every second person I met in school was my namesake.
